Narushige is the only male member of Shigeka clan, a clan who only produces women who give birth to Sanome. Due to the oddity of his birth, he is seen as an ill-omen who will bring disaster. He is accompanied by the talking snake, Kou who can transform into a sword. Due to his beautiful appearance, he can be mistaken for a woman, and he is sometimes referred to as "Mother", "Sister", or "Mother-In-Law" behind his back.
