He is originally an Emnetwiht, a human. During his last battle with The Visitor 500 years prior to the series, he didn't manage to drive off the Visitor and was killed. Before his death, he cast a curse on himself that strips him off his humanity, making him an immortal undead called "Barrowwiht" He is also Willem's friend and a comrade as a Quasi-Brave
