Wataru Kaidou 海道航
The protagonist of Kurayami Dance. Wataru works as an undertaker at the Hadou Crematorium and a biker off work. After getting into an accident caused by his desire to reach 300 km/h, he falls into a coma. He wakes up three years later - in an transformed hometown, with a transplanted eye, and a strange talking hallucination looming over him.
Wataru is a tall, slender man. His black hair is cut short. After the accident, his new eye becomes a prominent part of his appearance. During the events of the manga, he alternates between two outfits: his undertaker outfit and his biker getup.
Personality-wise, Wataru is a serious man with a no-nonsense attitude, which does not, however, prevent him from participating in humorous situations or getting along well with those he considers important. His seriousness should not be confused with extreme stoicism, however, as he does not hesitate to show his emotions, be it anger or sadness. As an undertaker and survivor of a serious accident, he does not hold death lightly, which often puts him into a position where he must convince others of life's importance.
Wataru is consistently motivated by the desire to go on a cross-American road trip with his best friend, Kenjin.
