A self-proclaimed "Child of the Westernization Movement," at the age of 16 he gets released from Jail after 3 months for attempting to stow away on a ship traveling to America. After his release, he quickly becomes friends with Ashitarou Hasegawa, as they try to survive living in Meiji Japan together with no place to return to.
