When he was a novice doctor, Sagiri had been close to the Ayamine family working with the mother and tutoring Kei, close enough that he thought of Kei's mother as his own. Kei and him had a very close friendship back then and the two had feelings for each other, but nothing ever came from it. After an accident where Kei's mother took the fall for him and was fired, Sagiri soon began climbing the career ladder. Driven by a desire for career success, he accepted a proposal to the hospital director's daughter, distancing himself from the Ayamine family. Sagiri is the commander of the 1st Tactical Armor Regiment, a prestigious position granted to IJA/MDF troops tasked to protect the capital of Japan, Kyoto. In the past, Sagiri was a close friend and loyal subordinate of Lieutenant-General Ayamine Shuukaku, Kei's father, and was even engaged to Kei at one point. After the Gwangju Incident, Shuukaku was labeled responsible and punished for that failure, which destroyed his faith in the Japanese government. After the bombing of his hometown during Operation Lucifer, his lack of faith turned into rage.
