Marie Kim 김마리
A second-year high school student and president of the journalism club. Her parents divorced when she was young, and her mother left and started a new family. Even though she was just a child, Marie was burdened with the housework, cooking and cleaning for her father and older brother. Although she was happy to help when she was young, all the responsibility is too much for her, and she dreams of moving into the school dorms.
As well as taking care of the home, Marie has to put up with her older brother's temper. They often have fun and play games together, but if he gets angry, he often hits her. Their father knows about this, but doesn't think it's a big deal. Marie's aunt argues with him, saying that history will repeat itself if he doesn't do something. Marie's father often hit her aunt when they were young, which led to her cutting ties with most of her family. She warns him that once Marie realises how much she was burdened with, and how no one would protect her from her brother's violence, she'll leave and never come back.
Having her aunt fight for her gives Marie the push she needs. In order to show how serious she is about the journalism club in the hope of persuading her father to give her permission to move to the dorms, she writes a scoop about Hae-Jun bullying a classmate and stealing his money. Soon she realises she got it all wrong, but the article has already turned the school against Hae-Jun, and Marie realises how difficult it is to prove what really happened.
