Ran and Jin's father. He is the leader of the sorcerers and head of the Black Crows. As a child, he was a small but powerful troublemaker, and he was the youngest to be admitted to the Black Crow Army. He trained under the leader at the time but fled after numerous run-ins. He later returned to the Crows and got married. Zen's broad connections and the insights cultivated during his youth led him to become the most popular person in the village. He worries about not spending enough time with his family. He likes miso, oden, kotatsu, plum wine, bonsai, the smell of ink and collecting hydrangea blossoms.
