A boy with great strength. He was put on fire when he was still baby because his mother tried to eat him due to the famine. It seems that he still has vague memories about that time. We becomes close to Wakasa after meeting the a wise monk. At first he is unable to speak and resorts to cannibalism and murder.

When he still behaved wildly he killed the lord's son because he accidentally hit him with a rock. As time passes by Asura becomes more kind-hearted and stops eating other humans or killing them. His jealousy of Wakasa's lover makes him try to hurt him though resulting in her feeling extremely disappointed. Though sad he later realizes the meaning of having a heart and decides to follow the path the monk showed him. He brings meat to Wakasa (presumably horse meat) but she refuses to eat it thinking it was human meat. The villagers end up running after him but he somehow manages to escape. When he grows up he becomes a monk himself showing that he truly changed.
